Sai Wan Trip #5

There was a small bridge joining the two sides of the river.  The water was clear and we're able to see some fish in the fresh water.  Along the river, a lot of abandoned fields were found.  Most probably, Sai Wan village was quite prosperous in the past.

On the way to see the plunge pools, we had to pass through a long and narrow footpath.  The bushes grew very tall and covered the footpath.  After some time, we reached the first plunge pool.  It was really wonderful!  A group of junior climbers were learning to walk along the river.  They were instructed to walk steadily by the coach.

This is the famous plunge pool (¤TÅ|¼æ) in Sai Kung.  The stream runs on rocky rhyolite with different resistance.  Due to differential river erosion, a step-like river bed is created.  In summer, a lot of visitors usually swim in the plunge pool to enjoy the cool and fresh water from Kap Man Hang.  Of course, we didn't try this as it's too cold for us.  When Wilson first saw the plunge pool, he asked with doubt, "Why could this be so gorgeous?"  This series of plunge pool is really amazing!

Can you see the rough and dry river bed?

Behind the plunge pool, you can see the small waterfall.  The discharge at that time was small because it was dry in winter.  If the river was flooded with water, we would not be able to walk along the river bed.¡@
