Field Trip to Shek O
Date: 2/10/2000
Time: around 10:00 a.m.
Location: Shek O Village/Headland
No. of participants: 20 (one absentee - Zoe)
We reached the top of Shek O Headland after a 10-minute walk from the bus terminus. The boulders around the headland were all granite. The rock surface was weathered by solution. Soluble salts were removed from the rocks due to salt spray. It was brought by the strong easterlies as the rock coast was facing east. With long fetch and deep offshore coast, this part of the coast was seriously eroded by waves. We climbed up a huge rock and took a picture.
On our south, we saw Shek O Beach which was filled with holiday-makers. We experienced the strong prevailing winds on the rocky coast and then, left for the next stop.
